Mean-field models for interacting battery-powered devices

Abstract

We show how the mean-field approach can be extended to massively-parallel systems of interacting Markovian fluid models which can be used to describe networks consisting of many nodes, each powered and dependent on a local battery source. The mean-field limits manifest themselves as solutions to partial functional differential equations which admit inexpensive numerical solution using standard techniques. Results are compared here with stochastic simulation and show excellent agreement for reasonable population sizes.
